About

Our Technology Joins Communities…

Our Story

Based in Nottingham in the East Midlands of England, DG Private Hire (a taxi company) is run as a family business and was founded in 1976. We have grown from an initial 12 cars taxi operator to over 1200 vehicles priding ourselves on customer care and reliability. Through expansion and acquisitions, we became the DG Group- a national operator. Family remains at the core of all we do.

Although we operate many Private Hire brands throughout the UK, our focus is also on technology and as we look to the future, our aspirations are to continue developing tools and technologies that help both people and companies “change the way they move”.

Community

Our communities are at the heart of all we do. We strongly believe in giving back in any way we can. Here are a couple of recent examples.

Pandemic Response 2020

There were many tales of local heroes in the early days of the pandemic, and this is the story of what we and our drivers felt we had to do for our community.

By the middle of March 2020, it was clear something terrible was on the horizon. The pandemic was quickly taking hold and we saw an increasing number of calls from customers stocking up on food.

As a company, we wanted to help and the idea to deliver essential items to those in need was developed. We already had a relationship with Pak foods wholesaler, and we agreed on a deal for a continuous supply of bread loaves and milk pints.

The plan was to offer a free delivery service for those in our community most in need and unable to leave the house.

We utilised our executive taxi drivers and many other taxi drivers who volunteered to help us with the essential part of the plan- delivery.

On the 19th of March, we appealed via social media for vulnerable, elderly and NHS workers in need to contact us via a dedicated phone line to place an order for a milk and bread package. The cost of service we provided, and the bread and milk were completely free, and the drivers gave up their time for free too.

Within a week we had to set up a separate department in our call centre to handle the volume of calls we were receiving for help. We also chose to expand the service to Derby to help our community there.

Over the weeks and months that followed we delivered over 200,000 care packages to those most at need. All completely for free.

Ancillary to this we also launched a food parcel delivery service where customers could order a box of essential groceries for loved ones for a nominal cost. This was also a huge success and we delivered over 4000 boxes.

Community is invaluable to all we do we owe our drivers a debt of gratitude for helping us to give back when our community needed us most. We have created a gallery below of some of the memories of those days.
